Searching back roads for images to share . . .

Caples Lake, CA
In late summer of 2008 workers began to drain water from the lake in order to repair
gate valves in the dam. It was a strange moonscape.
. . . our travels in search of photo memories to share.
When we were kids we loved
it when Dad loaded us all in the car and headed out to “go for a ride”. Now days
as adults we still love a ride in the country, but now we pack up some cheese, bread
and wine then head out in search of a back road not yet explored.
Crayfish
searched in vain for enough moisture to survive. It was a sad site to see how many perished.

The Lake bottom
nearly dry and scattered with debris.

Fragile Remains
turned white by the sun.

Stair steps
cut in by receding waters.
The earthen dam
with valves to be repaired.

Pickett Road
Calistoga, CA
Some like the early fall crush time in Napa Valley, but we especially
like the late end of fall just before leaf drop.
A wild grape vine
stands proudly in front of rows of planted vines and olive trees.

An outstretched arm
back lit by the low afternoon sun.

Fall Grape Leaves
each a rainbow of color.

Pickett Road
flanked by rows of color
Valley Oak
hangs over vines along the road.
